Elders Minutes

Hadleigh United Reformed Church
Present: Bryn (chair), Nigel, Elizabeth, Tom, Linda, Ronnie, George, Claire, Jan and Karen

The idea of a sabbatical for those who have completed two terms as an Elder will be taken to Church Meeting on Monday 13th March.
Election of Officers: NC will stay on as Secretary and Ronnie will do one more year as Treasurer but would like someone else to hold the title and do the monthly report (he is happy to provide background support).

Jan is keen to be involved in promoting/running a study-discussion course for the Church on environmental issues.
Mervyn reminded Elders that we are an Environmental body with an Environmental policy (which allowed us to access funding for church developments) and a duty to look to fulfil this. It was agreed a group should review this policy.
We have been offered the opportunity to switch to a ‘green tariff’ (100% energy supply from green fuel). As pricing is not yet clear it was agreed to maintain the status quo for the moment but Mervyn will find out if other churches are doing this to give an indication of the financial viability of a switch.
It was agreed that the ‘green communion’ suggested for Feb would be postponed – potentially to coincide with the launch of the environment bible study / discussion course.

Review of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – It was felt that few people engage with this – although Elders thought the joint service was very good. It was acknowledged that January is not a good time for things – dark and cold. Ideas: rethink approach with CTiH; when Joint Services are planned we should it HURC’s one service for the Sunday.
This year the Lent course will be on Tuesday evenings and Thursday lunchtimes. It starts on 7.3.17 and ends on Maundy Thursday – Elders were asked to encourage folk to go.
Bible marathon as a fund-raiser on March 25th – readers names to NC.

Meeting closed at 9.40pm with prayer
